writing update

Filed under: writing — lothie @ 11:28 am

I went to a science fiction/fantasy con for the first time in ages, mostly to attend a couple of writing workshops. I submitted my Champions character sketch, “Incident At the Club”, because I didn’t have time to write anything longer or more fleshed out.

As it turned out, that was a good decision. Because I submitted a piece that I wasn’t all that emotionally attached to, I could really listen to the criticism people had, most of which dealt anyway with the fact that it was a sketch more than an all-inclusive short. However, it was suggested that I write more on the subject (which will be easy to do; the campaign is over) and I was given contact info that could lead to publication. So I’m really happy about that.

I’ve mostly finished one of my current short stories but, while I think it’s well-written, I’m not sure how publishable it is, so when I’m done with this, I may drop the short story project for a while and go back to the (ex) Champions subject.

short stories

I’m working on another collection of short erotic stories. This time both the book itself and the individual stories will be much longer. I’ve got two in progress. It’s been slow but I really hope to have the collection done before November, because I really want to do NaNoWriMo again this year. (Though, with the new job, we’ll see how that goes…)

creative hiatus

Filed under: crafts, fibre art, knitting, writing — lothie @ 7:24 pm

Creativity has fallen by the wayside, a bit, but I’ve gotten back to knitting to some extent and am also doing some writing. Just very busy. Need to finish the shawls I’ve been doing.

publishing

Well, I just self-published my first book on Lulu. It’s called Becoming His, and it contains four short bdsm-themed erotic stories, available for download or printing.

I know that it’s pretty short at 16 pages, but I wanted to put something out there; obviously I’ll keep writing. I’m pretty happy with these stories, so I hope they’ll do well.

need to write – or rather, publish

Filed under: writing — lothie @ 6:59 am

As I mentioned in my last post, I was on vacation last week, visiting my “other family” in Kentucky. It’s jumping the gun somewhat to call them, quite, family, I guess, though that’s how I’m starting to feel about them. Anyway, things with that are great, but for various reasons it’s going to be about seven months before I see them again…and that’s difficult.

So I was thinking that if I sold some writing, I could probably get out there again in between now and my next planned trip…and this means that I either have to get someone to publish my erotica (already written for the most part) or I need to write some Infosec-related stuff. The former is easier but pays less and it’s hard to find a publisher; the latter is harder to write but pays more and I probably have a guaranteed publisher.

And I need to start on this now. Eeeeep.

working toward an album

Filed under: songs, writing — lothie @ 6:46 am

I have what I think are ten fairly good songs — actually, eleven — and therefore I'm thinking that I'm going to start creating melodies for them and work toward recording them. Three of them, which were written about 20 years ago, already have melodies (Bad Weather, Love Is Real, and New England Autumn), but I need to create melodies for the other eight.

I would love it if by the end of 2006 I had a professionally mastered CD. But I'd be happy if it were even just a homemade one that I distributed myself. I'm really, really excited.

I'm going to start thinking up album titles….SQUEE!
